Saturday could be called “Sun Down,” for on this day Jesus was in the grave. So, let us stop at this point and ask, “What if this was the end of the story?” What if Jesus had not risen from the grave. What would the world be like and where would you be?
Paul constructed this hypothetical situation in his first letter to the Corinthians, chapter fifteen. He made the points that, if Christ is not risen we have nothing to tell, "our preaching is in vain.” If Christ is not risen, we have nothing to trust, “our faith is also in vain.”
And, if Christ is not risen we have nothing to testify, “we are found to be false witnesses.” In fact, as our scripture for today states, if Christ is not risen, “we are of all men most to be pitied!”
1 Corinthians 15:19
"If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most to be pitied."
