HOLY WEEK READING & MEDITATION
Monday of Holy Week could be called “Son Burn.” For on this day Jesus cursed the fig tree for being fruitless stating, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” (Mark 11: 14). The next day the disciples saw that it had withered and died. Jesus also cleansed the Temple in Jerusalem when he saw money-changers and animal sellers crowding the court of the Gentiles. In our focal scripture passage below, Jesus makes the strong point that Temple worship should be for everyone to meet God, rather than a place for an elite group of God-robbers to pretend and hide from the Lord. The Bible says to, “Be angry but sin not.” (Ephesians 4:26). There is a place for Godly anger and Jesus certainly is angered at hypocrisy, fruitlessness, and elitism.
Mark 11:17
And as he taught them, he said, "Is it not written: 'My house will be called a house of prayer for all nations?’”
