Bible Reading Plan | April 15, 2021

On this eleventh day of our 66-day journey through scripture, we read a verse from the eleventh book of the Bible. When Solomon became king of Israel, his only request was for God to grant him wisdom. And wise he was expanding Israel’s borders, making peace with surrounding nations, and increasing the wealth and prosperity of the people. But Solomon “forsook wisdom” and decided to seek fulfillment in other areas outside God’s will.

Later, in the book of the Bible known as Ecclesiastes, an old and defeated King Solomon outlines that he sought pleasure in wealth, sex, popularity, power, building projects, food, and the arts, but discovered that it was all “vanity” (emptiness) without God. He ends by saying that only one thing matters – to live in awe of God and to follow Him.

In our verse for today, the Lord tells Solomon that he would lose his great kingdom because of his sin. What a sad and needless end to a great reign! What are you seeking fulfillment in today? If it’s anything other than the Lord Jesus Christ, you will lose, and you are living your life in vain.

1 Kings 11:11

“So, the Lord said to Solomon, ‘Since this is your attitude and you have not kept my covenant and my decrees, which I commanded you, I will most certainly tear the kingdom away from you and give it to one of your subordinates.”
