TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
On this eighth day of our 66-day journey through scripture, we read two verses from Ruth, the eighth book of the Bible. This is the story of a family that deserts the Promised Land to go to Moab, a land of idols. While there, Naomi the mom loses everything when her grown husband and children all die.
Destitute and defeated, these two widows Naomi and her daughter-in-law Ruth, struggle back to Naomi’s hometown of Bethlehem-Judah. While there, Ruth meets and marries Boaz who saves her from poverty, rejection, and insignificance. They have a child Obed, who becomes the father of Jesse, who becomes the father of King David, leading to the coming of the Messiah, Jesus the Christ!
Like Naomi and Ruth, we sometimes desert our God and find ourselves in a land of famine, idols, disaster, defeat, and death. But, as you read these verses, make sure and thank the Lord that you have a guardian-redeemer in Jesus who wants to make you part of His family. Through him you can, like Ruth, turn failure into fruitfulness!
“The women said to Naomi: ‘Praise be to the Lord, who this day has not left you without a guardian-redeemer. May he become famous throughout Israel! 15 He will renew your life and sustain you in your old age. For your daughter-in-law, who loves you and who is better to you than seven sons, has given him birth.’” (Ruth 4:14-15)
