TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him. He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy. For God was pleased to have all his fullness dwell in him, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.” (Colossians 1:15-20)
When Jesus burst on the scene 2000 years ago, the entire world had questions about His person and work. The Apostle Paul’s letter to the church in Colossae was written to answer these questions about who Jesus is and what He came to do. Paul fueled the imaginations of the readers of this epistle when he declared that we worship one God who reveals Himself in three persons – God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. In our scripture for today, Jesus is presented as the very image of God and is Lord over all creation. In Christ all things are created and are kept. And, Jesus is the head of the Church, which consists of all followers of Him. This same Jesus came to shed his blood on the cross to offer salvation, forgiveness, and redemption to all. The offer still stands today. Receive Jesus and His gift of salvation, and then glory in the miracle of Jesus Christ!
