TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
“And now, dear children, continue in him, so that when he appears we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming. If you know that he is righteous, you know that everyone who does what is right has been born of him.” (1 John 2:28-29)
Our verses for today remind us to not only receive Christ as our Lord and Savior, but to continue in Him. Continuing in Jesus means, not only praying a sinner’s prayer of commitment to the Lord, but adopting a lifestyle of following the Lord, day-by-day.
When you were saved, you confessed that you were a sinner and called upon the name of the Lord to save you. At that moment, all your transgressions were forgiven…past, present, and future. So why continue to serve and love Him? Because you are now a new creature in Christ and as such you should express that new nature in works of righteousness. Bottom line is this…you are saved by faith, not by works. But, now that you are saved, you have a faith that works!
So, express your faith in moment by moment obedience to Jesus. Then, you will one day stand confident and unashamed in the presence of Jesus when He comes, basking in His righteousness, and hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant…enter into my peace!”
