TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

“The Lord is good, a refuge in times of trouble. He cares for those who trust in him, but with an overwhelming flood he will make an end of Nineveh. He will pursue his foes into the realm of darkness.” (Nahum 1:7-8).

Nahum was a prophet who pronounced God’s doom upon the wicked city of Nineveh. This large city in the Assyrian Empire was known for acts of unspeakable cruelty, violence, and torture. But in this book of the Bible, we see their day of reckoning and judgment approaching fast, both in this world and the next.

As you read these verses, just think about all the horrible, perverse people in the world. Sometimes it seems that some murderers, child molesters, serial killers, and abortionists are never going to be stopped or punished. But God is still at work in the world. Though we too are wicked sinners, He will save and restore those who trust in Him alone for grace, healing, and forgiveness. And…It is a comfort to know that, even if some wicked people are not stopped and punished in this life, there is a reckoning day for all in the afterlife. When that day comes…will you be found for the LORD or against Him?
