TODAY’S SCRIPTURE


The book of Lamentations in the Bible is a series of writings that express despair and grief over the fall of Jerusalem. The people of the nation Judah had turned away from God. Their society had become unjust and cruel.

The result was God allowing the pagan nation of Babylonia to attack and conquer Judah, taking them into exile. Jeremiah, the author of this book, expresses regret at the loss of this great nation. An even bigger regret in this book, though, is when people neglect their relationship with the LORD.

But even in the midst of the sin, war, and defeat our scripture verses for today gave hope to the people. Even in His judgment the Lord would not allow His people to be utterly consumed. Due to the unfailing, amazing compassion of God, every morning could be a new beginning. Do you need a new beginning? Then trust in the LORD, and you will find Him to be faithful!



 

“Because of the LORD’s great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning. Great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:22-23)
