TODAY’S SCRIPTURE
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely, I am with you always, to the very end of the age.” (Matthew 28:18-20)
We begin today to read a verse from each of the 27 books of the New Testament for 27 consecutive days. We begin the New Testament in the Gospel of Matthew. Along with the books of Mark, Luke, and John, the Gospels are four accounts of the life of Jesus Christ from four different perspectives. Matthew’s perspective is very interesting. He was one of the twelve apostles and was a tax collector before he met Jesus.
His Gospel is directed towards the Jews. The emphasis is on what Jesus said and taught, and there are frequent references to the Old Testament to prove that Jesus is the Messiah who was prophesied hundreds of years earlier.
Our Bible passage for today is at the very end of the Book of Matthew, and is known as “The Great Commission,” Our commission is for believers to lead people everywhere to follow Jesus as Savior and Lord. But…we are not alone in this endeavor. These verses reveal that Jesus will never leave you. He is with you always and has all the authority of God, because He IS God!
