TODAY’S SCRIPTURE

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:42-45)

The Gospel of Mark is a fast-moving account of the life of Jesus. As Jesus journeys from His hometown in Galilee to Jerusalem, he performs miracles, teaches, heals, and ultimately pays the penalty for our sins on the cross. When some women discover His empty tomb, they encounter an angel that proclaims that Jesus is risen and to inform His disciples. The story ends with them fleeing in fear.

Whenever we encounter God, we have a crisis of decision. Will we ignore His call? Will we slow-walk in apathy? Will we flee in fear? Or…will we faithfully follow God’s will? According to our verses for today, our highest calling is to love and serve God and others. Do you want to be truly great? Then, don’t delay or run in fear…give your life in service to all!
