A SONG OF PRAISE

Read it

Psalm 150

1 “Praise the Lord! Praise God in His sanctuary. Praise Him in His mighty firmament! 2 Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! 3 Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! 4 Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! 5 Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! 6 Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord!”

Discover It

Psalm 150 is a song of “worship” in the Bible, but more accurately, it should be called a song of “praise.” We sometimes use “praise” and “worship” as synonyms. But they actually are quite opposite. When we “praise” we exalt the Lord. We lift him up in adoration. We magnify and raise his reputation. But when we “worship” we lower ourselves. With heads down and knees bowed, we sometimes even fall on our faces before the Lord as his lowly servants. Imagine a service of worship with such a spectrum of magnification of God and humility of man!

Ask It

1. In verse 1, we are told where to worship God. Based upon this verse, where should we be when we praise the Lord?

2. In verse 2, we are reminded to worship the Lord for what he has done. Based upon this verse, name some things we should praise God for.

3. Also, in verse 2, we are instructed to praise the Lord for who he is (he is great). List some of the great things about God.

Live It

1. Praise the Lord – for who he is. (vs. 2a)

2. Praise the Lord – for what he has done. (vs. 2b)

3. Praise the Lord – in various ways (music, praying, even dancing)! (vs. 3-6)

4. Praise the Lord – both in church and under the vast expanse of heaven! (vs. 1)

Pray It

"You are blessed, LORD. The God of Israel our father, forever and ever. Yours, LORD, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the victory, and the majesty! For all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, LORD, and you are exalted as head above all. Both riches and honor come from you, and you rule over all; and in your hand is power and might; and it is in your hand to make great, and to give strength to all. Now therefore, our God, we thank you, and praise your glorious name.”

(1 Chronicles 29:10-13)
