THE BATTLE BELONGS TO THE LORD

Read it

Joshua 6:1-5

Now the gates of Jericho were securely barred because of the Israelites. No one went out and no one came in. Then the Lord said to Joshua, “See, I have delivered Jericho into your hands, along with its king and its fighting men. March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days. Have seven priests carry trumpets of rams’ horns in front of the ark. On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in.”

Discover It

In Joshua 6:1-5, we find the Israelites facing a seemingly impossible task: conquering the fortified city of Jericho. The walls of Jericho were massive and well-guarded, and the city's inhabitants were ready to defend it fiercely. From a human perspective, the situation appeared hopeless. However, God had a plan that was beyond human understanding. God’s instructions to Joshua were unconventional: march around the city for six days with the Ark of the Covenant, have the priests blow their trumpets, and on the seventh day, march around the city seven times, then shout loudly. This strategy made no sense militarily, but it was a demonstration of faith and obedience. Joshua and the Israelites trusted in God’s promise and followed His instructions. As a result, the walls of Jericho fell, and the Israelites were victorious. This story teaches us a profound lesson about faith and trust in God. When we face battles in our lives—whether they are physical, emotional, or spiritual—we can be assured that the battle belongs to the Lord. Our role is to trust Him, obey His instructions, and have faith that He will deliver us.

Ask It

1. What battles are you currently facing in your life? How can you trust God more with these challenges?

2. How do you think the Israelites felt as they marched around Jericho? What can we learn from their obedience and faith?

3. Have you ever experienced a situation where God provided a solution that was different from what you expected? How did it strengthen your faith?

Live It

Remember that no matter how daunting the battle, if you have embraced Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior, God is in control and will ultimately lead you to victory. Trust in Him, follow His guidance, and witness His power at work in your life!

Pray It

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for Your faithfulness and for reminding us that the battle belongs to You. Just as You delivered Jericho into the hands of the Israelites, we trust that You will deliver us from our own battles. Help us to have faith and obedience like Joshua and the Israelites. Teach us to rely on Your strength and not our own understanding. May we always remember that Your ways are higher than our ways and that Your plans are perfect. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
