CHOOSE YOU THIS DAY

Joshua 24:13-15

"So I gave you a land on which you did not toil and cities you did not build; and you live in them and eat from vineyards and olive groves that you did not plant. Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your ancestors worshiped beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Discover It

In Joshua 24, we find the people of Israel at a pivotal moment in their history. After years of wandering in the wilderness and fighting battles to claim the Promised Land, Joshua, their leader, calls them to a moment of decision. He reminds them that they are living in a land that they did not earn, enjoying the blessings that they did not work for. It was God who had provided for them abundantly, fulfilling His promises to their ancestors. And now, Joshua challenges the people to make a choice. They could continue serving the false gods of their past, or they could choose to serve the Lord. Joshua’s declaration is clear and resolute: “As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”

Ask It

1. What are some modern-day "gods" or idols that can distract us from fully serving the Lord?

2. How can you and your family make daily decisions that reflect your commitment to serving God? How can you make serving the Lord a priority in your home?

3. In what ways can we encourage one another to stay faithful to God, even when it's challenging?

4. How can we create a family environment where serving the Lord is a joy and not a burden? What changes might be needed to ensure that God is at the center of your lives?

Live It

1. Answer God’s call to make serving God the priority of your life.

2. Choose not to be swayed by the idols of our culture—money, success, comfort, or entertainment. Instead, choose to serve the Lord with all faithfulness, putting Him first in every aspect of your life.

3. Choose to serve the Lord, not as just a one-time decision but a daily commitment. This means putting God at the center of your family life, our work, our relationships, and our decisions. It means living in a way that reflects His love, His grace, and His truth. And just as Joshua led his household in serving the Lord, you also have the responsibility to lead out in faithfulness to God.

Pray It

Heavenly Father, we thank You for the many blessings You have provided for our family. We acknowledge that all we have comes from You, and we choose this day to serve You with all our hearts. Help us to put You first in everything we do, and guide us in making decisions that honor You. Strengthen our faith and our commitment to follow You, no matter what challenges we may face. May our home be a place where Your love is evident and where we serve You together in unity. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
