Matthew 28: 19-20
“Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Discover It
These words of Jesus known as the “Great Commission” have inspired Christians down through the ages. It’s His challenge for His followers introduce people to Christ as they go around the world. These verses further instruct Christians to baptize people and introduce them to all his teachings and commands. And how can we do this? Through the presence of Jesus Christ Himself. He is with you wherever you go and will never ever leave you!
Ask It
1. Why do you think God chose people as the primary means to transmit the Good News of Jesus throughout the world?
2. Why do you think believers being publicly baptized is emphasized by Jesus in these verses and in other places in the Bible?
3. How does Jesus’ promise that He is “with us always” help us to accomplish the seemingly impossible task of making disciples of all nations?
Live It
1. GO! Wherever you go, look for divinely provided opportunities to tell people about Jesus. Be ready to share Jesus with your family, your friends, and people you encounter in your traffic patterns of life.
2. TEACH! You teach with your life as well as your lips. How does your life teach people to trust and obey Jesus? Decide today to let your light shine before others and tell them the message of Christ!
3. TRUST! Don’t try to fulfill the Great Commission in your own power. Trust in Jesus to work through your life. He is with you every hour of every day.
Pray It
Heavenly Father, I ask for mercy on behalf of those who are lost. Let your mercy fill their hearts that they may be able to know that you are the true living God who was and is to come. Help them to know that it is only in surrendering themselves to you that they will find real rest and unconditional love. And use me to tell everyone I know about your life-changing Gospel. In Jesus’ name…AMEN
