WHEN A VIRTUOUS WIFE LAUGHS

Read it

Proverbs 31:25-26

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. (Proverbs 31:25-26)

Discover It

The person described in Proverbs 31 was quite a woman! Her husband adores her, and her children “rise up and call her blessed.” She is a talented weaver. She is a fashion designer. She is an interior decorator. She is a real estate investor. She bought and runs a farm. She is an astute businesswoman and has a successful family. She is a hard worker, her body is fit, her mind is keen, and she is a sharp dresser. But in our focus verses for today she is also clothed in strength and dignity. She exhibits wisdom when she speaks and is faithful as she teaches others. And this woman is so confident in her faith that she can laugh, even when marching into an uncertain future. This woman is an example, inspiring us to live our lives with a reverential awe of God. And if we do, perhaps we can begin to exhibit some of the godly qualities of this woman to the point that we can even laugh with confidence as we face the days to come.

Ask It

1. In Proverbs 31, this woman is described as being clothed with fine fashions as well as being clothed in strength and dignity. (For Kids: which is more important being clothed in nice garments, or being clothed with God’s character?)

2. Verse 25 tells us that this woman, “can laugh at the days to come.” How can we be confident and positive, even when we do not know the future? (Hint: Jesus said in Revelation 22:13, “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End”).

3. In verse 26 we learn that this woman, “speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue.” Why is our speech so important to God? How can our speech help others? What does our speech tell others about our character?

Live It

1. Emulate the Example of this Woman! Love and fear God and reflect His character of strength, dignity, and kindness.

2. Emulate the Speech of this Woman! Make sure your speech reflects the character of Christ and use your speech to instruct others and show them the way to the Savior.

3. Emulate the Actions of this Woman! Laughter is the window into the heart of someone who is confident about the future. God knows the future and controls the future. And if you keep holding Him by the hand, he will direct you confidently as you march into the days ahead.

Pray It

Heavenly Father, without you I’m clueless as to which way to turn. Because I do not know the future, it’s like driving down the highway, but only seeing through the rear-view mirror. But you see the whole picture; you know what is ahead. And in you the fog clears as I walk closely by your side. So, help me to step forward with confidence as I travel through life with you, smiling and even laughing as we face the days ahead. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
