Luke 23:33
“When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with the criminals—one on his right, the other on his left.”
Discover It
In Luke 23:33, we read of the crucifixion scene at a place called “the Skull” or the Latin term, “Calvary.” This hill was and is the turning point in all of human history. At Calvary, Jesus, the Son of God, gave His life for the sins of the world. His crucifixion wasn’t just a tragedy; it was a victory over sin and death for all who would believe.
The scene at Calvary represents the depth of God’s love for us. Jesus willingly took our punishment, experiencing the pain and rejection that we deserved. Jesus paid the penalty we owed for our sin. And… this wasn’t just for one special person or one elite group—it was for everyone. When Jesus hung on that cross, He thought of each one of us. His sacrifice was a bridge back to God, giving each of us a chance to have a relationship with Him.
Calvary is a reminder that salvation isn’t something we can earn. We don’t deserve it, but Jesus offers it freely. By simply trusting in His sacrifice, we receive forgiveness and eternal life. This salvation experience should shape our daily lives, reminding us to live in gratitude, humility, and love for others.
Ask It
1. Why do you think Jesus had to die on the cross for our sins?
2. How does knowing that Jesus sacrificed Himself for you change the way you live?
3. What are some ways we can show others the love and forgiveness that Jesus offers?
Live It
Today, take time to remember what Jesus did for you on Calvary. When you feel unworthy, remember that Jesus loved you enough to die for you. Reach out to him in prayer and accept His gift of salvation and ask God to help you live in a way that reflects His love and grace to others. And finally, share this message with friends or family members who may need to hear about Jesus’s love.
Pray It
Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for our sins. Help us to never forget the great love and sacrifice You made for us on Calvary. Teach us to live lives that honor that gift and to share Your love with others. Draw us closer to You each day, and remind us that we are saved by grace, not by our own strength. In Jesus' name, Amen.
