MAKING SENSE OF SUFFERING

1 Peter 5:10

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Discover It

Suffering is something we all experience in different ways. Whether it’s dealing with sickness, facing disappointments, or going through hard times at school or work, suffering can make us feel weak and discouraged. But in this verse, Peter reminds us that our suffering is only temporary, and God promises to restore us. When we suffer, it can be easy to feel alone and wonder why God allows us to go through tough times. But suffering can actually bring us closer to God. It reminds us that we need Him and that He is our strength. And God doesn’t just leave us in our suffering; He promises to restore us, making us strong, firm, and steadfast. Peter also highlights that God is the "God of all grace." This means that even in our suffering, God’s grace is always with us. Grace is God’s undeserved kindness and love, and it’s always present, especially when we need it the most. Suffering helps us rely on God’s grace, which carries us through and brings us out stronger on the other side.

Ask It

1. Can you think of a time when you went through something difficult? How did it make you feel?

2. How did you see God helping you during that time? Why do you think God allows us to go through suffering?

3. How can suffering help us grow stronger in our faith? How did God use your suffering to help others who are going through challenging times?

Live It

This week, whenever you face something challenging, take a moment to remember 1 Peter 5:10. Remind yourself that God is with you, even in the tough times, and that He will use this experience to make you stronger. Try to encourage someone else who may be going through difficulties by sharing this verse with them or praying for them.

Pray It

Dear God, Thank You for being with us, even when we suffer. Help us to trust You during trials and to remember that You will restore us and make us strong. Give us the grace we need to endure, and help us to encourage others who are suffering. Thank You for Your promise that our suffering is only for a little while, and that You will bring us through any trial as long as we remain faithful to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
