AN EXPERIENCE ON MOUNT SINAI

Exodus 19:3-6

"Then Moses went up to God, and the Lord called to him from the mountain and said, 'This is what you are to say to the descendants of Jacob and what you are to tell the people of Israel: You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself. Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession. Although the whole earth is mine, you will be for me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.' These are the words you are to speak to the Israelites."

Discover It

Mountaintop experiences in the Bible are often moments of great significance when God reveals something important to His people. In Exodus 19, Moses climbs Mount Sinai to meet with God. It was on this mountain that God set the stage for His covenant with Israel, calling them to be His "treasured possession" and a "kingdom of priests." The Lord used this mountaintop moment to give Moses a message for all of Israel. He reminded the people of how He had saved them from slavery in Egypt and cared for them like an eagle caring for its young. In this passage, God not only reminds them of what He’s done but also tells them about the future — a promise of blessing and calling if they obey Him. God’s call for Israel was to be set apart as a holy nation. In the same way, God calls us to live differently, as His treasured possession. We may not climb literal mountains to hear from God, but He speaks to us through His Word, prayer, and worship. When we experience God's presence in a special way, it is meant to encourage us to walk in obedience and reflect His love to the world.

Ask It

1. What do you think it was like for Moses to meet with God on Mount Sinai? What are some "mountaintop" experiences you’ve had in your life, where you felt close to God?

2. Why is it important to remember what God has done for us in the past, like He reminded Israel? How can we live as God’s "treasured possession" in our everyday lives?

Live It

1. Just like He did when Moses went up the mountain to meet God, you are invited to draw near to God through His Word and prayer.

2. When we look back on how God has worked in our lives, it helps us trust Him for the future. So, take time to remember what God has done for you.

3. Just as Israel was called to be a holy nation, God calls you to live differently and be a light in the world. We are set apart for a purpose.

Pray It

Heavenly Father, thank You for drawing me close to You and for speaking to me through Your Word. Help me to remember the ways You’ve carried me, just like You carried the Israelites on eagles’ wings. Teach me to live as Your treasured possession, walking in obedience and reflecting Your love to those around me. Guide my every step as I fully trust in Your plan. In Jesus' name, Amen.
