AN EXPERIENCE ON MOUNT MORIAH
Genesis 22:1-2
Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”

Abraham faced one of the hardest tests of his faith when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Isaac was the fulfillment of God's promise to Abraham—his beloved child. The command to sacrifice Isaac seemed impossible and deeply painful. However, Abraham trusted God and was willing to obey, even though he did not understand how it would all turn out.
This story points us to a deeper truth about God's ultimate plan. Just as Abraham was willing to give up his son, God Himself would later sacrifice His only Son, Jesus, for our salvation. Through Jesus' sacrifice on the cross, we are offered forgiveness and eternal life.
Sacrifice is not always about giving up something physical, like Abraham was asked to do. It can also mean giving up our time, comfort, or desires to follow God's will. Abraham's obedience teaches us that when we trust God, even when it’s difficult, He always has a purpose that works for our good and His glory.
Ask It
1. How do you think Abraham felt when God asked him to sacrifice Isaac? What do you think this story teaches us about trusting God, even when we don’t understand His plans?
2. What are some things in your life that might be hard to sacrifice or give up to follow God more closely? Why can we have faith in God as we sacrifice our time and talent and resources to follow him?
Live It
As a family, discuss ways you can show sacrificial love this week. It could be helping a friend, giving up a favorite activity to serve others, or donating to those in need. Just like Abraham trusted God, think about one difficult situation where you can trust God more. Pray for faith to believe that God’s plans are always good, even when they are hard to understand.
Pray It
"Dear God, thank You for the example of Abraham’s faith and obedience. Help me to trust You even when it is difficult, and teach me to follow Your will with an open heart. Thank You for the greatest sacrifice of all, the gift of Your Son, Jesus, who died for our sins. Please show me how I can live sacrificially, giving my time, my love, and my life for You. In Jesus' name, Amen."
